Pickup and delivery, only when you're open

The phone agent takes pickup and delivery orders from your POS menu, and checks you're open for that kind of order first. Customers pay on pickup or delivery, so it never asks for a card.

Pickup or delivery?

When both are open, the greeting ends "Is this for pickup or delivery?" When only one is open, it says so: "We're only taking pickup orders today. What can I get for you?"

  • If delivery stops at 10pm and pickup at 11pm, a 10:30pm caller is offered pickup only.
  • Items follow your POS menus. A delivery caller who asks for pickup-only wings hears "Sorry, the Chicken Wings isn't available for delivery." The rest of the order carries on.

More on how it reads your live POS menu.

Taking a delivery order

Delivery starts with the postcode, so nobody orders for a street you don't cover. From our test suite:

Caller: SW1A 1AA.

Phone agent: Sorry, we don't deliver to SW1A 1AA. Would you like to pick it up instead?

  • A covered postcode gets "Great, we deliver there." with that area's fee and minimum order.
  • The address is asked once the caller has chosen, and read back once with the fee and total, then "paid on delivery. Shall I place the order?" (see how the read-back works).
  • The caller's own number is used unless it's withheld.
  • With a prep time set, the goodbye gives an estimate: "It should be with you in about forty minutes."
  • If it can't make out the address after two tries, it apologises and ends the call. We'd rather lose the order than send a driver to a guess.

Delivery areas

Your POS doesn't hold delivery areas, so we keep them in Zogu: a postcode prefix (M14, or one sector like M14 5) with its own fee, minimum order and extra minutes. The most specific match wins. With no areas set, it takes pickup only. Our team enters them for you in the console for now.

Delivery has only been tried in our automated tests. No real restaurant uses Zogu yet, and all seven test-call orders on 4 and 5 November 2026 were pickup.

When you're closed

It still answers, and says when you open:

"We're closed for orders right now; we open again tomorrow at 11am. Can I help with anything else, like our opening hours?"

  • No orders while closed, and no orders for later.
  • Hours come from your POS: split shifts, past midnight, holidays, separate pickup and delivery hours, and pauses.
  • If closing time passes mid-call, the order isn't placed.
  • Phone-only hours, closures and items switched off for the day can be set in Zogu and take priority.

How customers pay

Orders go into your POS unpaid. The read-back ends "paid on pickup" or "paid on delivery", and payment questions are answered from your POS payment types: "You pay when you get your order by cash or card. We can't take card payments over the phone." More in the FAQ on calls, orders and payments.

Allergen questions

Zogu's own code answers from the allergens in your POS menu, not the AI: "The Garlic Bread contains gluten and milk. For a serious allergy, please check with the restaurant before ordering."

It never says a dish is allergen-free. Items with no allergen data get a "please check with them" line and go on your team's review list. It can't put a caller through to the kitchen (see what Zogu doesn't do), so check your allergen data before going live.

Restaurants in the US

The agent speaks British English today and adds no sales tax. Delivery areas are UK postcodes only, so US restaurants get pickup orders for now. See the US FAQ.

Questions and answers

Who delivers the orders?

You do, with your own drivers. The order reaches your POS with the customer's name, number, address and delivery fee. Zogu doesn't book couriers.

Does the caller find out if the kitchen rejects the order?

No. The call ends once your POS has the order. If you reject it later, the customer's number is on the order.
