What Zogu won't do, and what to do instead

Zogu answers your phone and takes pickup and delivery orders from your POS menu. It can book tables too. It doesn't transfer calls, take card details or speak anything but English.

Some limits are on purpose, some are where the product is today. As of 5 November 2026 no restaurant uses it yet.

It needs a POS we work with

Zogu only works with the POS systems we work with, with no workaround. It reads your menu, prices and hours from your POS and sends orders back there. If your POS isn't one of them, nothing else here matters.

No transfers to staff, and no promised call-backs

There's no staff number to put a call through to. On a Friday night nobody is free to pick up, and a call-back is a promise someone has to keep later.

  • On one test call the model offered a transfer anyway. Any line like that is now swapped in code for "Sorry, nobody can be put through or called back on this line, but I'm happy to help with your order."
  • A caller who asks for a person hears: "I'm the automated ordering assistant, so I can't connect you to a person, but I can take your order."
  • Complaints go to the restaurant.

Instead: put a number your staff answer, or an email address, on your website and receipts.

No card payments over the phone

Speech recognition mishears numbers, and a card number read out brings the call under PCI DSS. Orders go in marked to be paid on pickup or delivery. Pay by texted link is built but switched off.

Instead: take payment at the counter or at the door.

No orders for later

Every order is for now. When you're closed, Zogu says when you open and takes no order. A caller can still book a table for later.

Instead: see pickup and delivery orders by phone.

English only

Zogu listens and speaks in English only. Another language gets an apology in English. Dish names stay as you write them.

Instead: keep those calls on a line your staff answer.

Incoming calls only

Zogu never makes calls: no call-backs, no "your order is ready".

Instead: ring the customer yourself. Their number comes through with the order.

It doesn't wait for the kitchen to accept

Zogu waits only for your POS to take the order (under a second on our test system), gives the total and ready time, and hangs up. Your accept or reject updates the record later, and the caller isn't told.

Instead: if you reject a phone order, ring the customer. See how a call goes, step by step.

Smaller limits

  • No allergy advice beyond the allergens on your menu.
  • No POS promotions. A deal set up as a menu item works.
  • No "most popular", because it has no sales figures.
  • At most 20 of one item.
  • No audio recording. Calls are kept as text.
  • No owner login yet. Our team runs the console.
