Pizza orders over the phone, taken from the menu in your POS

Zogu answers your pizza shop's phone, finds "twelve inch" however your till writes it, asks for the crust or dip your menu needs, reads the order back once and sends it to your till. It can't do half-and-half, POS promotions or voucher codes. No restaurant uses Zogu yet, so every example comes from our tests, as of 5 November 2026.

A pickup order on our test menu

This is from our test suite, on a small pizza menu we wrote with made-up prices ("pickup" stands in for the word it used).

Caller: Pickup please, two large margheritas with extra cheese.

Zogu: Two Large Margheritas with Extra Cheese. For the Margherita, which crust would you like? We have Thin Crust or Classic Crust.

Caller: Thin crust please.

The caller says that's everything, turns down a side and gives the name Sam.

Zogu: Thanks, Sam. So that's two Large Margheritas with Extra Cheese and Thin Crust, for pickup, under the name Sam. The total is twenty-four pounds ninety-eight, paid on pickup. Shall I place the order?

On a yes it gives the ready time, says goodbye and hangs up, without waiting for the kitchen. Zogu's own code, not the AI model, added up the £24.98 from your POS prices.

Sizes in inches

Callers say "a twelve inch"; tills write 12", 12'' or 12-inch. Zogu treats them as the same.

  • "Twelve inch margherita" finds MARGHERITA 12", not the 10-inch next to it.
  • "Twelve inch margarita", spelt like the cocktail, still finds it.
  • 12" MARGHERITA is said as "12 inch Margherita". The inch mark is never read out.
  • Sizes set up as choices, like Small or Large, get asked for unless the caller says one.

One gap: on a menu that only says inches, Zogu doesn't know which size is your large. Those phrases can be linked to the right pizza on the Teach page. Shops don't have a login yet, so we set that up with you.

Toppings, crusts and dips

These are the option groups on each pizza in your POS, at your prices and limits. Zogu asks only about required ones, and callers can answer out of order: "Extra cheese" in the middle of a crust question is added, then the crust is asked again.

  • Stuffed Crust with a required dip gets the dip question next.
  • A topping priced differently on one pizza is charged at that pizza's price.
  • Too many toppings gets your limit: "You can choose up to two for extra toppings."
  • A topping that isn't on that pizza isn't added: "Sorry, the Pepperoni doesn't come with pineapple."

An order whose totals don't add up is stopped before it reaches your POS. More on how Zogu uses your live POS menu.

Garlic bread and drinks at the end

After "that's everything", Zogu can make up to two add-on offers, each naming up to three real items, and a no ends them.

  • Offers come from categories named side, dessert or drink (beverage works too). Garlic bread under Starters won't be offered.
  • A caller who already has a side is offered a drink instead.
  • You can add your own question first, such as "Would you like any dips with that?", or switch add-ons off.

There's no built-in offer to go up a size. More on how the add-on offers work.

Deals, half-and-half and vouchers

This is where Zogu is most limited for a pizza shop.

  • A deal that's a menu item works at its price and in its hours. Our lunch deal wasn't offered at 6pm.
  • POS promotions, like two for Tuesday, aren't mentioned or applied. Orders go at full menu price.
  • Half-and-half isn't supported.
  • Voucher codes aren't taken. A caller who asks hears your own line, if you've given us one, or "Sorry, I don't have an answer to that."

Busy nights

  • "Yeah", "mhm" and "um" don't cut Zogu off. After 12 seconds of quiet it says "Take your time. Let me know when you're ready."
  • "Actually no garlic bread" takes it off, and "make it three" changes the quantity.
  • Nothing is sent without a clear yes to the read-back.
  • The ready time is your usual POS prep time. It doesn't know you're running 40 minutes behind.
  • Pausing orders in your POS closes the shop to phone orders until the time you set.

We haven't load-tested how many calls it can take at once, so don't plan your Saturday around it answering every line yet.

What we've tested so far

Only a small pizza test menu of our own, through our test suite and a search check. Our real test calls have been on a burger and kebab menu, and no real pizza shop's menu has been through Zogu. There are no UK numbers yet. It speaks English only, and Italian names like nduja ("en-doo-yah") are respelled for the voice, not yet checked by ear.

Questions and answers

Can a caller order pizzas for later tonight?

No. Every order goes into your POS to be made now. When you're closed, it says when you open again.

What about a big order for a party?

Up to 20 of one item per order: "I can take up to twenty of one item over the phone." There's no way to block a number yet, so check a big order from a number you don't know.

Can callers pay by card over the phone?

No. Zogu never takes card details, and the read-back says how the order is paid.

If we run out of something on a Friday, does Zogu know?

Only through your POS. Hide the item there, and once the change reaches Zogu the next call won't offer it.
