Regulars greeted by name, "same as last time" ready
A caller ringing from the phone they used for an earlier Zogu order is greeted by first name. "Same as last time" puts that order back on from today's menu.
What a regular hears
"Hi Sam, welcome back to" your shop's name, then "you're through to the automated ordering assistant. What can I get for you today?"
- Only the first name is said out loud. Last time's order isn't read out unless they ask.
- The name carries over, so Zogu doesn't ask who it's for. The full name goes to your POS.
- Shared phone? "It's not Sam, it's Tom" puts the order under Tom.
- Pickup-only or closed for orders? The greeting still says so.
A test call with a regular
No real restaurant uses Zogu yet. From our own test call on 5 November 2026 (name changed):
Zogu: "Hi Sam, welcome back to …! We're only taking pickup orders today. What can I get for you?"
Nobody asked Sam's name; Zogu said it once, in the read-back, and "Yeah. Go ahead." placed the order.
Not all of it went right. "Can I have the burger, please?" got last time's quarter-pound burger when he wanted the half-pound one. Zogu now only adds an item the caller has named, and only brings back last time's order when asked. That change has had only a few test calls so far.
How it recognises a caller
By caller ID: the most recent phone order from that number at your shop.
- Only phone orders Zogu took for this shop. Not app, website, counter or other branches, even in a multi-site group.
- Only orders that reached your POS and weren't rejected or cancelled.
- If the lookup fails, the caller gets your usual greeting.
There's no customer list to keep. It works from the call record and the order copy. Each call has a written transcript, and no audio is recorded (see call transcripts). The AI model gets only first name, date, order type and items, not surname, number or address.
Withheld numbers
A withheld number is a new caller. "Same as last time" gets "I can't find a previous order from this number." and the next question. Zogu asks for a contact number before the read-back, and that order isn't tied to any number later.
Repeating the last order
"Same as last time", "the usual" or "my last order" re-adds it, checked item by item against today's menu in your POS:
- Same options and notes, so "no onions" is still there.
- Today's prices.
- Pickup again if you're taking it; last time's address if it's still in your delivery areas. Delivery repeats have only been run in our test suite.
- Asking twice won't double it: "I've already added your last order. Anything else?"
Then it's a normal order with one read-back. It gives your own number the one-tap reorder delivery apps have: see winning back direct phone orders from delivery apps.
Opting out
For one call, a caller can withhold their number (141 in the UK, *67 in the US). To be forgotten, their Zogu phone orders and transcripts for your shop are deleted, by hand on our side for now. Your POS copy is yours to manage. See our privacy policy for the UK and for the US.
Questions and answers
Two people use the same phone. Who does Zogu greet?
Whoever's name is on the last order. Anyone else just says so, and the order goes under their name.
Does it recognise customers who order through our app or website?
No. Only phone orders Zogu took for your shop count.
Can we switch the welcome-back greeting off?
Not yet. A caller who'd rather not be greeted can withhold their number or ask for their history to be deleted.
Does "same as last time" charge last time's prices?
No, today's, from the current POS menu.
How long does Zogu remember a customer's orders?
We haven't set a retention period yet.
