Pizza phone orders, taken pie by pie

Zogu answers your pizzeria's phone, asks for each pie's size and crust from your POS menu, reads the order back once and sends it when the caller says yes. No restaurant uses it yet, so everything here comes from our code and test runs.

Sizes in inches or by name

In a scripted test run on November 5, 2026 (not a phone call), "an eighteen inch margherita, thin crust" went straight on as the 18-inch. Leave the size out and the agent asks:

For the Margherita, which one would you like? We have 12 inch, 14 inch, 16 inch or 18 inch.

One setup detail: if sizes are only in inches, "large" won't match. Name them both ways (Large 16" Margherita) and both kinds of caller are covered.

Crusts, toppings and limits

Required choices come one at a time, with the options named:

For the Pepperoni, which crust would you like? We have Thin Crust or Stuffed Crust.

  • Extra toppings cost your menu prices, and your limits hold: "You can choose up to two for extra toppings."
  • A topping that pie doesn't offer gets "Sorry, the Pepperoni doesn't come with pineapple."
  • "No onions" with no matching option goes to the kitchen as a note.
  • Questions use your group names, so name groups the way you'd say them.
  • Zogu's code adds up the prices, not the AI model. More in how Zogu works from your live POS menu.

Half-and-half pies

Nothing is built for half-and-half. If your menu has half toppings as options, the agent treats them like any other option, but we haven't tested that. Every pie is still read back before anything is sent.

Wings, sides and add-ons

Sides are menu items like any other. "Eight piece chicken wings" found 8pcs CHICKEN WINGS, not the 4-piece.

Once the caller is done, the agent can offer up to two add-ons from your menu, and a "no" ends them. They can be switched off or reworded. See how the add-on offers work.

Game day

Each call runs on its own, with its own order, and the agent doesn't wait for the kitchen. We haven't load-tested it, and our Twilio account limits calls at once until it's fully verified, so it needs testing before a big game. Forwarding your existing number hasn't been tried with a real restaurant. For calls nobody gets to, see phone orders missed in the dinner rush.

The read-back, in dollars

From the same test run, with the store set to US dollars:

Thanks, Sam. So that's one Pepperoni with Thin Crust and one Garlic Bread, for pickup, under the name Sam. The total is sixteen dollars forty-nine before tax, paid on pickup. Shall I place the order?

"Yeah, go ahead" placed it. ("Pickup" stands in for the word that run used.) One gap for US stores: delivery doesn't work. ZIP code 27858 got "Sorry, we don't deliver to 27 858," so it's pickup only.

What it won't do

  • No orders for later.
  • No card details by phone. Orders are paid at pickup.
  • No POS promotions, though a deal set up as a menu item works.
  • No transfers or call-backs.
  • No more than 20 of one item.
  • English only, and the caller isn't told if the kitchen turns an order down.

Questions and answers

Which POS systems does Zogu work with?

Toast, Square, Clover, Oracle MICROS RES 3700 and Foodhub, through our POS integration platform. It reads your menu, prices and hours from your POS and sends orders back through it.

Can a caller change the order partway through?

Yes. In our tests, "Actually no garlic bread" got "Okay, I've taken off the Garlic Bread. Anything else?"

Will callers know they're talking to an AI?

Yes. Every greeting says it's the automated ordering assistant, and Zogu adds that line if your own greeting leaves it out.
